Objectives
After completing this lesson, students will be able to work with political cartoons and:
- build historical knowledge of the 1898 War and American perceptions of the Caribbean landscapes and peoples
- recognize how this period was shaped by this medium
- embrace the complexity and ambiguity of working with primary sources
- use a variety of sources (primary and secondary) to decode political cartoons
- conduct re-readings of political cartoons as new evidence is presented
